Lent Studies on Zoom

Tuesdays at 7pm beginning 17th Feb
We will be using the book ‘Godforsaken: The Cross – the Greatest Hope of Allby the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell. The book is available as an e-book as well as a paperback from the usual sources (Waterstones, Eden, eBay, World of Books, The Big Church Read, Amazon).

The cry of Jesus “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” in Mark’s gospel is the subject of Cottrell’s reflections in the book.  He invites us to ponder what it meant for Jesus to have quoted this in the last moments of his life and to consider what it mean for us today.  As we linger over these words and read the book together, may we find true these declarations from the Service of Death and Resurrection of The United Methodist church: “Dying, Christ destroyed our death.  Rising, Christ restored our life. Christ will come again in glory.”

17th Feb – Discussion of  Intro and chapter 1
24th Feb – NO SESSION
3rd Mar – Discussion of chapters 2 & 3
10 Mar – Discussion of chapters 4 & 5

Marking Lent 2026

The West Herts & Borders Circuit has agreed to mark Lent 2026 by collecting items for WorkAid, a charity based in Chesham who refurbish tools to support projects in West Africa. Please pick out items from this list and bring them to your church. The circuit will arrange collection just after Easter.

We expect to arrange collection shortly after Easter. We suggest that you bring your gifts to church around that time rather than throughout Lent, ensuring that gifts come from the Accepted list.

SPACe Drama Team Presents: Three Marys

As evening approaches, three women sharing one name gather
for a simple supper. Women bound together by their
relationships to one man – Jesus.

As darkness falls the women begin to share memories that they
have kept to themselves until now – deeply personal memories
in which they relive moments of despair and darkness as well
as moments of deep joy. Through sharing together comes the
realisation that Jesus’ love knows no bounds.
Three Marys allows us to share in the innermost thoughts of
three of the most important women in Jesus’ life.

As we discover more about their interactions with him we are invited to reflect on our own relationship with Jesus.

This intense drama is recommended for anyone over 12 years of age.
